Asthma Home > Asmanex Inhaler

Asmanex® (mometasone inhaler) is an asthma medication available by prescription only. It is used to prevent asthma attacks, not to treat them once they start.
The medicine comes in a special inhaler and is typically used once or twice a day, every day. It belongs to a group of drugs called inhaled corticosteroids, which work by going directly into the lungs to decrease the inflammation of airways that makes asthma attacks more likely. The Asmanex inhaler delivers 220 mcg of medication per inhalation.
As with any drug, side effects are possible with Asmanex. However, most people tolerate this medicine well. When side effects do occur, they are usually mild and either do not require medical attention or can be treated easily. Some of the most common side effects reported with the Asmanex inhaler include sore throat, headache, and upper respiratory infections.
