Carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Epitol, Equetro, Tegretol, Tegretol XR)
Taking
carbamazepine with
zafirlukast can raise the level of carbamazepine in your blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of carbamazepine in your blood -- especially when you are starting or stopping zafirlukast.
Clarithromycin (Biaxin, Biaxin XL)
Combining zafirlukast with clarithromycin may decrease the level of zafirlukast in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Be sure to let your healthcare provider know if your
asthma symptoms worsen while you take clarithromycin.
Cyclosporine (Gengar, Neoral, Sandimmune)
Taking cyclosporine with zafirlukast can raise the level of cyclosporine in your blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of cyclosporine in your blood -- especially when you are starting or stopping zafirlukast.
Erythromycin (Ery-Tab)
Combining zafirlukast with erythromycin may decrease the level of zafirlukast in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Be sure to let your healthcare provider know if your
asthma symptoms worsen while you take erythromycin.
Phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek)
Taking
phenytoin with zafirlukast can raise the level of phenytoin in your blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of phenytoin in your blood -- especially when you are starting or stopping zafirlukast.
Theophylline (Theo-Dur)
Although studies have shown that zafirlukast does not interact with
theophylline, there have been reports of increased theophylline blood levels (and side effects) in people who combined zafirlukast with theophylline. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of theophylline in your blood -- especially when you are starting or stopping zafirlukast.
