Xopenex^® (levalbuterol hydrochloride), a medication that is available by prescription, is commonly used to treat airway spasms, such as asthma attacks, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema, among other respiratory problems. The medication works by opening up the airways to allow more air to enter the lungs. Prior to taking Xopenex, be sure to let your healthcare provider know if you have any medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or any type of heart disease. The medication comes in a liquid form that is used in a nebulizer.
