Xopenex® (levalbuterol hydrochloride) is a medication that can be prescribed to treat or prevent airway spasms in people with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The drug works by opening up the airways and reducing inflammation. Xopenex, which is available in four different strengths, comes in a liquid form that is used in a nebulizer. Common side effects include runny nose, viral infections, and tremor.
