Healthcare providers often prescribe Symbicort® (budesonide and formoterol) for people with asthma or COPD to help prevent attacks from occurring. The medication contains a beta agonist, which opens up the airways, and an inhaled steroid, which decreases inflammation. Both of these drugs have been shown to help improve breathing and lung function. Symbicort comes in a metered-dose inhaler and is typically used twice a day. Potential side effects include irritated or runny nose, sore throat, and headaches.
