Symbicort Drug Interactions

Tricyclic antidepressants, beta blockers, and certain diuretics may cause problems when taken with Symbicort. Drug interactions could lead to decreased effectiveness of the medications or result in certain side effects, such as low potassium levels, irregular heart rhythm, and dangerously low blood pressure. To reduce your risk of developing Symbicort drug interactions, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking.

Symbicort Drug Interactions: An Overview

Symbicort® (budesonide and formoterol) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Symbicort drug interactions include:
 
  • Certain antibiotics or antifungals, including:
o Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
o Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
o Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
o Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
o Miconazole
o Telithromycin (Ketek®)
  • Certain diuretics, such as:
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:
