Symbicort® (budesonide and formoterol) is approved to help prevent asthma attacks. This prescription medication works by reducing inflammation and stimulating certain receptors, causing the muscles around the airways to open up and allow more air into and through the lungs. Symbicort comes in the form of a metered-dose inhaler and is typically used twice a day. Before your healthcare provider prescribes the drug, he or she will consider several factors, such as the severity of your asthma and other medications you may be taking.
