Symbicort® (budesonide and formoterol) is prescribed to help prevent asthma attacks from occurring. It is also approved for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is a combination drug that works by opening up the airways and decreasing inflammation. Symbicort comes in a metered-dose inhaler that is used twice a day to prevent symptoms; it is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to treat an asthma attack.
