Pulmicort® (
budesonide inhalation) is a prescription drug commonly used for preventing
asthma attacks. It comes in two forms -- the Pulmicort Flexhaler
® (a special kind of inhaler) and Pulmicort Respules
® that are inhaled using a nebulizer -- and is typically used once or twice a day.
Healthcare providers may prescribe the inhaler form of Pulmicort for children as young as six years old. Pulmicort Respules are approved for children ages 12 months to 8 years old. Younger children usually require help using the medication correctly.
It is important to talk to your child's healthcare provider about the best ways to treat
childhood asthma. Inhaled steroids, such as Pulmicort, may slightly slow the growth of children or teenagers.
