Pulmicort® is a "controller medication" used to prevent asthma attacks before they start, instead of treating them once they occur. It comes in two forms: the Pulmicort Flexhaler® and Pulmicort Respules®. Pulmicort works by opening up the airways, which allows more air to get into and through the lungs. Commonly reported side effects include sore throat, coughing, and viral infections.
