Asthma Home > Zyflo Drug Interactions
When medicines such as propranolol, warfarin, and theophylline are taken together with Zyflo, drug interactions can potentially occur. Drug interactions with Zyflo can raise the levels of some drugs in your blood and increase your risk for side effects or bleeding. You should make sure to talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any Zyflo interactions that may apply to you.
Zyflo® (zileuton) can potentially interact with some other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Zyflo interactions include:
- Propranolol (Inderal®, Inderal LA®, InnoPran XL®, Pronol®)
- Theophylline (Theo-Dur®)
- Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Zyflo is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Propranolol (Inderal, Inderal LA, InnoPran XL, Pronol)
Taking propranolol with Zyflo can raise the level of propranolol in your blood, increasing your risk of propranolol side effects. If you are taking propranolol along with Zyflo, your healthcare provider should monitor your heart rate and blood pressure, as well as decrease your propranolol dose if necessary.
Taking theophylline with Zyflo can raise the level of theophylline in your blood, increasing your risk of theophylline side effects. If you are taking theophylline along with Zyflo, your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of theophylline in your blood -- especially when you are starting or stopping Zyflo.
