Asthma Home > More Info on Indications for Zyflo CR

How Does Zyflo CR Work?

Zyflo CR belongs to a group of medications known as leukotriene synthesis inhibitors. Leukotrienes are chemicals produced by the body in response to allergens. These chemicals cause swelling and inflammation in the airways of the lungs and constrict the muscles of the respiratory tract.

Zyflo CR works by inhibiting the production of leukotrienes, which prevents the chemicals from causing asthma symptoms.

Zyflo CR Use in Children

Zyflo CR is approved for treating asthma in children as young as 12 years old. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using Zyflo CR in children.

Off-Label Zyflo CR Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Zyflo CR for something other than preventing asthma attacks. At this time, using Zyflo CR to treat allergies is considered to be an off-label Zyflo CR use.
