You should not take salmeterol if you:
 
  • Are allergic to salmeterol xinafoate, Serevent, or any inactive components used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Have asthma and are not taking a long-term asthma control medication (such as an inhaled steroid).
