Asthma Home > Flovent HFA

A prescription asthma medication, Flovent® HFA (fluticasone HFA) is approved for preventing asthma attacks. It is an inhaled steroid medication that comes in an environmentally friendly inhaler. Inhaled steroids go directly into the lungs and help to decrease the inflammation of airways that makes asthma attacks more likely.

Although Flovent is not a cure for asthma, it has been shown to help improve breathing and asthma symptoms. Clinical studies also show that people already taking oral steroids for asthma were able to decrease or eliminate their oral steroid when they began using Flovent.

Most people tolerate Flovent HFA well, but as with all medications, side effects are possible. Some of the most common side effects that have been reported with this drug include throat irritation, headaches, sinus infections, and upper respiratory tract infections.
