Asthma Home > Advair Diskus 500/50
The Advair Diskus® (fluticasone and salmeterol) is used differently than older inhalers. It contains small foil pockets that are filled with the powder. These pockets are punctured and the powder is inhaled using your own breath. The 500/50 strength of Advair Diskus is the strongest dosage available for this form of the medication.
For preventing airway spasms in children over the age of 11 and adults who have asthma, Advair Diskus dosing will depend on the dose of other asthma medications taken in the past. This dosage will vary from 100/50 twice daily to 500/50 twice daily. For children ages 4 to 11, the recommended dose is lower, one inhalation of Advair Diskus 100/50 twice daily, about 12 hours apart.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
For people who are using the Advair Diskus for treating COPD, the 500/50 dosage may be too high. Generally, the recommended dose for treating COPD is 250/50 twice daily.
