Flunisolide Inhaler Dosing
For adults and children over 16 years old who are initially using a flunisolide inhaler, dosing usually starts at two inhalations twice a day. If needed, the dosage can be increased up to four inhalations twice daily. The recommended (and maximum) flunisolide inhaler dosage for children ages 6 to 15 is two inhalations twice a day.
The dose of flunisolide inhaler (Aerobid®) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- The severity of your asthma
- Other medications you may be taking.
As always, do not adjust your flunisolide inhaler dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Flunisolide inhalers will not be made, dispensed, or sold in the United States after June 30, 2011. Flunisolide inhalers contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), chemicals that deplete the ozone layer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set this final date for the medication in order to comply with the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer. People using the flunisolide inhaler should ask their healthcare providers about alternatives to the medication, keeping in mind that it is possible that flunisolide inhalers may become unavailable in pharmacies earlier than the final date.
