The medication comes in a metered-dose inhaler and is available in three strengths:
- Flovent HFA 44 mcg inhaler -- containing 120 inhalations, with 44 mcg per inhalation
- Flovent HFA 110 mcg inhaler -- containing 120 inhalations, with 110 mcg per inhalation
- Flovent HFA 220 mcg inhaler -- containing 120 inhalations, with 220 mcg per inhalation.
For the treatment of
asthma in children ages 4 to 11, the recommended Flovent dosage is two inhalations of Flovent HFA 44 mcg twice daily.
People previously taking an inhaled steroid (with or without a bronchodilator) usually start with two inhalations of the Flovent HFA 110 mcg inhaler or the 44 mcg inhaler. For people taking bronchodilators alone, the starting dose is two inhalations of Flovent HFA 44 mcg twice daily. The starting recommended dose for people taking an oral steroid (with or without a bronchodilator) is two inhalations of Flovent HFA 220 mcg twice daily.
