Flovent for Children

Flovent® HFA (fluticasone HFA) is a prescription medicine used to prevent asthma attacks. It is an inhaled steroid that comes in an environmentally friendly, metered-dose inhaler.

Healthcare providers can prescribe Flovent for children as young as four years old. However, young children usually require help using the inhaler correctly. Since inhaled steroids may slightly slow the growth of children and teenagers, you should talk to your child's healthcare provider about the best options for treating childhood asthma.

Flovent works by going directly into the lungs to decrease the inflammation of airways that makes asthma attacks more likely. Since the medication is inhaled directly into the lungs, it can help reduce or eliminate many of the side effects associated with long-term steroid use.
