The recommended Azmacort dosage for adults and adolescents (age 12 and over) is two inhalations three to four times daily, or four inhalations twice daily. For children age 6 to 12, the recommended Azmacort dose is one or two inhalations three to four times daily, or two to four inhalations twice daily. The maximum Azmacort dose for adults and adolescents is 16 inhalations total per day, and for children it is 12 inhalations total per day.
The dose of Azmacort® (triamcinolone inhaler) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- The severity of your asthma
- Other medications you may be taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your Azmacort dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
As of December 2009, the manufacturer of Azmacort decided to stop making the drug in order to comply with regulations concerning chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), chemicals that may deplete the ozone layer. Had Azmacort been a more popular drug, the manufacturer probably would have chosen to reformulate it without CFCs, instead of just discontinuing it. Any unexpired Azmacort inhalers still in pharmacies may be dispensed until December 31, 2010, after which they can no longer be sold in the United States.
