Some asthma medicines combine a bronchodilator with an inhaled steroid. These medicines include:

Fluticasone and salmeterol (Advair^®)
Budesonide and formoterol (Symbicort^®).

A variety of miscellaneous medicines are available for asthma treatment, including:

Leukotriene modifiers, such as:
- Montelukast (Singulair^®)
- Zafirlukast (Accolate^®)
- Zileuton (Zyflo^®), Zileuton CR (Zyflo CR^®),

Cromolyn sodium (Intal^®), a mast cell stabilizer

Omalizumab (Xolair^®), a monoclonal antibody.

It is important to understand the differences among different types of asthma medicines. Using the wrong medicine to treat an asthma attack can have devastating consequences.
