Alvesco Medication Information

Alvesco® (ciclesonide inhaler) is a prescription medication used to prevent asthma attacks. It is taken twice a day, every day, and is part of a class of asthma drugs known as inhaled corticosteroids, or simply steroids for short. Because Alvesco is a longer-acting "controller" medicine, it should not be used to treat an asthma attack. Rather, it is used every day in order to prevent them.

Before beginning treatment with Alvesco, the drug's safety information should be fully reviewed with your healthcare provider. This medication may not be the best choice for everyone, so make sure your healthcare provider is aware if you have any other medical conditions, such as glaucoma or tuberculosis, or are taking any other type of medicine, including nonprescription products, herbal supplements, or vitamins. Common side effects of Alvesco include headaches and throat irritation.
