Asmanex® (mometasone inhaler) is a prescription medication commonly used for preventing asthma attacks. It is used to prevent asthma attacks, not to treat them once they start.
The drug comes in a special inhaler called the Asmanex Twisthaler®. It is used once or twice a day, every day. It works differently from other inhalers; it contains a dry powder that is inhaled using the force of your breath.
Inhaled steroids go directly into the lungs and help to decrease the inflammation of airways that makes asthma attacks more likely. Because Asmanex does not work quickly, it should not be used as a rescue inhaler.
Even though most people tolerate Asmanex well, side effects are possible. Some of the most common side effects that have been reported with this asthma medication include headaches, a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, and upper respiratory infections.
