Albuterol Abuse (Cont.)

Suspecting Albuterol Abuse -- And What to Do

Albuterol can be life-saving in people with asthma. It is extremely important to allow people with asthma to access albuterol inhalers, even if abuse is suspected. In some cases, people may use albuterol more often than recommended when their asthma symptoms are getting worse, and poorly controlled asthma may lead people to overuse albuterol. While these situations are not ideal, they are not albuterol abuse.

If you are using albuterol more often than prescribed (or without a prescription), be sure to talk to a healthcare provider. Even if albuterol abuse is not occurring, your healthcare provider can help to treat your asthma more appropriately.
