Advair and High Blood Pressure Research
In clinical studies,
high blood pressure was not reported as one of the possible
Advair side effects. However, it is possible that
salmeterol, one of the components of
Advair, may cause increased
blood pressure. Salmeterol is a beta agonist, which is essentially the opposite of a beta blocker. Beta blockers are medications used to treat high blood pressure and other conditions. Blocking beta receptors can
lower blood pressure, while stimulating beta receptors (as salmeterol does) can increase blood pressure.
Suggestions for Advair and High Blood Pressure
It is recommended that Advair be used with caution in people with high blood pressure. This means that your blood pressure should be checked more often than normally required, to make sure that Advair is not affecting your blood pressure. With careful monitoring, most people with high blood pressure have no problems taking Advair. However, people taking beta blocker medications should talk with their healthcare providers before taking Advair, as these medications may lead to
Advair drug interactions.
